I like to shop local when I can and that includes visiting one of my local farmers markets. One of my favorites is The Brownsburg Farmers Market which opens on Thursday, June 5. There will be entertainment at the market. Whitney Erin will be performing a concert to celebrate the opening of the 2014 market season.
Around thirty vendors are expected to participate at this year’s market. You can expect to find fresh produce, prepared food (both savory and sweet treats) and other handcrafted wares.
What I really enjoy about the market is that it’s conveniently located (on Brownsburg’s Town Hall green) and I can easily stop there after work. The market is also dog-friendly, which is perfect so my dog Louis can get exercise and interact with other dogs (and people too!).
I have many fond memories of trips to last year’s market where I enjoyed homemade lemon shake ups, bites of Kettle Corn and purchased lots of local produce (including Indiana corn and tomatoes).
It’s free to attend the market and parking is free! On a budget? No problem. You’ll find a variety of inexpensive items. I’ve visited the market before with twenty dollars and left with plenty of produce to stock the fridge.
3 tips for the Brownsburg Farmers Market
1) Arrive Early– The market gets crowded and there is parking, but isn’t it good to be a bit early to scope out what you want to buy, eat or drink?
2) Bring Fido– Dogs are welcome at the market, so be sure to bring your dog(s) to visit the market, where there is plenty of room to walk them around the grounds.
3) Sign Up– Stay informed with weekly e-mail updates about the market by signing up for the Brownsburg Farmers Market newsletter at brownsburg.org/newslettersignup. You can also find out the latest by “liking” the Brownsburg Farmers Market Facebook page at Facebook.com/BrownsburgFarmersMarket.
